Crave You – Dance Sensation
TapTronic, the newest YouTube sensation, is composed of Irish dance virtuosos, Canadian Ciaran Plummer (27) and Ohio native, Zach Klingenberg (20). Both world champion Irish dancers, Plummer and Klingenberg have combined their love of dancing with their love of hip-hop and electronic music. The duo met while touring as dancers with Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance show. On April 27th they posted their first official TapTronic video on Facebook and YouTube. This piece, a remixed version of Crave You by Flight Facilities, had 177,000 hits just a week later. Since then the video has been featured on the Huffington Post, CBC, MSNBC and blogs and web-sites all across the world. Needless to say Klingenberg and Plummer are happy with the response to their attempt to put their virtuoso Irish dance steps to music.
The video was made at Revere Beach near Boston and Taptronic recorded and filmed the entire thing with the help of friends at Surefire Music. The Crave You routine was the duo’s first attempt at choreography together and they made a few interesting decisions. In the video, for example, Klingenberg wears metal taps on his shoes while Plummer uses traditional Irish hard dance shoes – the combined sound produces a rich percussive dance beat to accompany the music and highlight their personal styles of dancing. TapTronic are anxious to emphasize that the dance steps they use are Irish dance steps and that the speed of their feet in the video is not a special effect but directly related to their training as Irish dancers.
This mash-up where Irish dance meets electronic music is meeting with widespread acceptance across the music and dance world and if TapTronic have their way, Crave You will be just a first step (!) in a long and interesting career.
