Star Wars Day
Star Wars Day is a fan-organized day first held on May 4th 2011, in Canada. This date was chosen to celebrate Star Wars as it’s an obvious play on words – a pun on the famous Jedi farewell – ‘May the Force be With You.’ (Try saying it with a slight lisp)
The celebration of Star Wars Day is not confined to Canada but has rapidly became a worldwide phenomenon. On May 4th 2012 all around the world Star Wars devotees watched the movies, dressed up, held conferences, trivia tournaments and re-enactments. Anything Star Wars was the order of the day.
Just like the movies themselves, the celebration of Star Wars Day has become a massive phenomenon. There just seems to be something about the heroic quest of these movies that inspires all sorts of people in all walks of life. Millions of people are still engaged with these George Lucas classics almost thirty years after Star Wars was released in 1977.
There are many strange fan-based practices centered around Star Wars, including the development of the Jedi religion. Jediism – as it is called – is an international movement designed to train Jedi knights to build world unity and honor. You could do worse.
However, the most mind-blowing Star Wars tribute in 2012 has to be this recording of the famous John Williams Star Wars theme.
Nick McKaig – Star Wars fan extraordinaire – recorded himself singing the theme. Once he had recorded it, McKaig then spent almost 300 hours turning more than 90 audio tracks into this pretty cool rendition.
Now that’s dedication worthy of a Star Wars hero on Star Wars Day…
